Frequently Asked Questions...
How long is each counselling session?
Each session lasts 60 minutes.
How much will a session cost me?
My standard fee for individuals is £40 per hour and for couples is £48 per hour. Concessions can be offered to
students and people on very low income.
What is the counselling room like?
The room is situated in a quiet village location in Pulham St
Mary in Norfolk. It has comfortable seating and is an informal
and private place for you to talk freely.
How many sessions will I need?
Some people need only one session, others may need counselling
for many months. It always depends on the individual and we'll
discuss this at your first session. It's important to have an
end goal in sight so I usually offer a course of six sessions,
with a progress review at the end. At this point, we can decide
together whether to end there or continue your therapy.
Your counselling will never be ended abruptly.
What can I expect at my first counselling session?
The first session is an informal assessment. I'll talk you
through my policies regarding confidentiality, ethics,
bookings/cancellations and payment to ensure we have safe
boundaries with which to work. You'll have the opportunity to
discuss what's led you to seek counselling, ask questions and
raise any points that you're still unclear on.
It's important you choose a counsellor who suits your needs,
someone you feel you can trust. I'll know by now if I'll be able
to help you. And, of course, you don't have to decide
immediately, you may want time to go away and think about it.
How frequent will my therapy sessions be?
I usually recommend weekly sessions; however, fortnightly can
also be effective if your work or family commitments don't allow
for a weekly session.
What is the difference between counselling and
psychotherapy?
Counselling is usually short term and looks at current issues
that may be causing you concern. Psychotherapy is usually a
longer process that works at a deeper, emotional level. It can
help you to come to terms with the past and identify any
unhelpful behaviours that may be affecting you
now.
